Teeth Whitening

The vast majority of people will benefit from tooth whitening. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth, the number of applications and the duration of time the system is used.

Whitening can only lighten your existing tooth colour. Whitening also only works on natural teeth. It will not work on any type of ‘false’ teeth. This includes dentures, crowns and veneers. Stained veneers, crowns and dentures may need replacing.

Some people find that their teeth are sensitive for the first few days after treatment, but this wears off after a short while. Your dentist will advise you of the products you can use to counteract this. Having your teeth whitened at the dentist is simple and easy, just contact us to start your treatment.

We offer two options for tooth whitening, in surgery – zoom advance power or at home kits:

At Home

During your diagnostic visit, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth. This allows your dentist to make a custom gel-holding appliance which is called a whitening tray.

At your second visit, you will be fitted with a take-home whitening tray. You will also be given specific instructions on how to administer gel and how often to wear your tray.

Maximum results generally occur when the process is continued for 2-3 weeks. Results are individual and some people may require a “touch-up” 1-2 days, once or twice a year. The teeth will always be lighter than they once were.

In Surgery – Zoom Advance Power

The process usually takes two hours; during this time the dentist applies a chemical barrier to the gums, which will protect them during the whitening process. The whitening solution (gel) is then applied to the teeth and the chemical is then activated using light. Once the whitening process is finished the barrier will be easily removed in one piece.

You will leave the surgery on this day with you desired shade.
